For the proper use of a digital tachograph, drivers must use a personalized driver card. The driver card must be carried at all times during transport, even if the driver is not driving a vehicle with a digital tachograph.
A vehicle with a digital tachograph cannot be driven without the driver card, except in exceptional circumstances. Learn more here.
To apply for a driver card, the request must be submitted to the company AKD d.o.o. The issuance of the driver card takes approximately 8-15 days. The digital driver card is valid for 5 years, after which a new card must be issued.
Procedure for issuing a driver card
To issue a driver card, the following documentation is required:
First request for the issuance of a driver card (documentation)
Request for the issuance of a driver card personally signed (either directly with the card issuer or a notarized signature if the request is sent by registered mail)
Valid ID card (or passport for foreign nationals)
Valid driver’s license
Proof of payment for the card issuance fee
Driver’s photograph (45×35 mm in size) – the photo must reflect the current appearance of the driver and must not be older than 6 months.
Replacement of driver card due to loss / theft / damage
To request a replacement card, the following documentation must be prepared:
A request for the replacement of the driver card, personally signed (either directly with the card issuer or with a notarized signature if the request is sent by registered mail)
A valid ID card (or passport for foreign nationals)
A valid driver’s license
Proof of payment for the card issuance fee
A passport-sized photo of the driver (45×35 mm) – the photo must reflect the driver’s current appearance and must not be older than 6 months
The driver must report the loss or theft of the driver card to the card issuer as soon as possible. In such cases, the card issuer will provide a confirmation of the reported loss/theft. The driver must then submit this confirmation to Narodne Novine. After the advertisement declaring the card invalid is published, the driver will receive a confirmation of the lost/stolen card notice, which must be forwarded to the issuer for further processing.
If the driver card is damaged, the cardholder must return the card to the issuing body, which will proceed with the card cancellation process.
Card replacement due to data changes
To request a replacement card due to changes in information, the following documentation is required:
A signed application for the driver’s card change (signed in person at the card issuer’s office or with a notarized signature if submitted by mail)
The driver’s current card
A valid personal ID card
A valid driver’s license
Proof of payment for the card issuance
A recent passport-sized photo of the driver (45×35 mm, showing the current appearance of the driver, and no older than 6 months)
